MAYMUN showed why Donato Lanni went to $900,000 on behalf of Zedan Racing Stable to purchase him last April when he romped on debut to earn Thoroughbred Daily News ‘Rising Star’ status.
Making his debut going 6 ½ furlongs on the dirt, the Bob Baffert trainee showed a small bit of greenness at the gate before recovering to sprint to the lead. The Frosted colt easily controlled the pace from the very beginning before starting to pull away from the field.
MAYMUN wasn’t asked for much in the stretch but still romped to a 7 ½ length victory with the third placed runner finishing 12 ¼ lengths behind the winner.
“This was one of the best horses in the sale, I thought. He deserved to bring that kind of money,” Lanni said after the hammer dropped at the sale.
MAYMUN’s dam Handwoven is a full sister to multiple stakes placed Auspicious and a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Flatter Than Me.
MAYMUN joins Grade 1 winners TAIBA, ARABIAN KNIGHT, MUTH, ARABIAN LION, and PRINCESS NOOR as Thoroughbred Daily News ‘Rising Stars’ for Zedan.
