MEDINA SPIRIT drew a favorable post 8 in the Kentucky Derby post position draw this morning. The Protonico colt coincidentally also sat 8th on the Kentucky Derby points leaderboard after a win the Robert B. Lewis (G3), and runner-up efforts in both the Sham (G3) and Santa Anita Derby (G1) earlier this spring.
MEDINA SPIRIT is the only entrant for dual Triple Crown-winning trainer Bob Baffert in this year’s rendition of the Kentucky Derby. A rags to riches story after a mere $35,000 purchase, Baffert describes MEDINA SPIRIT as having a “heart of a lion”. Although a bit overlooked with morning line odds of 15-1, hopes are high for MEDINA SPIRIT to be competitive in the classic.
