Zedan Racing was active again at this week’s OBS Spring 2-Year-Olds In Training Sale when adding three more juveniles to our string.

Breezing in :9.4 and named Rookie Racer, our first horse purchased was also the most expensive of our group when Donato Lanni went to $800,000 to buy the colt on our behalf. Offered by Sequel Bloodstock as agent for Chester and Mary Broman, the New York-bred Rookie Racer is a half-brother to the Grade 3 winner and multiple Grade 2-placed Classy Edition, multiple stakes winner Newly Minted, and multiple stakes placed New Girl In Town from the three winners out of Newbie.

By Bernardini, Newbie was a winner herself as one of five winners out of the stakes winning Changeisgonnacome. Each of the colt’s first four dams have either won stakes or produced stakes winners.

Out of Acoma, Hip 891 by Nyquist was purchased for $550,000 at OBS.

Acoma is a Grade 1 winner who has produced three winners from five to race as the latest successful producer in the family. She is also one of five stakes performers out of the stakes winning Aurora.

Aurora’s other runners include U.A.E Horse of the Year Festival of Light and Grade 1 winner Arch with many of her daughters also producing stakes winners. That group is led by dual champion Covfefe, Grade 2 winner Albiano, and Grade 3 winners Campaign and Aztec Sense.

Lanni also went to $525,000 on our behalf for Nyquist’s Hip 1064.

Offered by GOP Racing Stable, the colt is out of Harlan’s Holiday’s daughter Charlatana. Charlatana is also a half-sister to Grade 2 winner and successful sire Laoban and to the dam of Canadian champion Mr. Hustle. Just like our other purchases, he comes from a strong family with three of the four dams on the page producing at least one stakes winner and both the second and third dams also earning their own blacktype.

It’s been another big juvenile sales season for Zedan, with five 2-year-old purchases. That group is led by our $1.8 million filly purchased at the OBS March Sale of 2-Year-Olds at the first sale of the year.
