Zedan Racing headed to the OBS Spring Sale of 2-Year-Olds this week, determined to add another group of future stars to its roster and did just that.
The group was led by the $2.2 million sale topping Gun Runner colt from de Meric Sales.

“He was a wow horse; Amr loved him, absolutely loved him,” Zedan Racing’s bloodstock agent Donato Lanni said. “He wanted the horse, needed him. We loved everything about him and did not want to go home without him. Amr is a very serious man, and he’s very passionate about the business. He loves his horses and the game and wants to win those classic races. He loves American racing and America; he’s a great guy and great for the game. The whole team loved the horse. We couldn’t go home without him.”
Out of the stakes winning Perfect Wife, the colt is a full brother to the Grade 3 placed Runaway Wife. That one is the first of racing age out of their dam, herself one of three winners out of Crozat.
Stakes performers run throughout the generations with each of the four dams producing at least one stakes performer. Among those named under his four dams are also the Grade 3 winner and multiple Grade 1 placed Jungle Prince and stakes winners Fenimore and Termez.
A $1.45 million Arrogate colt purchased from Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds was a popular offering after breezing in :10.0 but in the end, Zedan Racing won the bidding war.

The half-brother to the multiple stakes-placed Sunset Promise is also a half to three-time winner Destinique out of War Front mare Destine. The colt comes from the family of champion Smoke Glacken with the page also including Grade 2 winner Smokey Glacken, Crown of Thorns, and others with nine stakes performers named overall.
“He is our kind of horse,” Lanni said after signing the ticket. “Bob loved him as soon as he saw him. He is big and beautiful and had a lot of presence about him. He did amazing in his breeze [:10 flat].”
Another joining the group was a $900,000 Frosted colt from Longoria Training and Sales.

Breezing in :9.3 during the Under Tack Sale, he is a half-brother to two winners out of the Indian Charlie mare Handwoven. That mare is a full sister to stakes winner and stakes producer Auspicious and a half-sister to Grade 3 placed Flatter Than Me. The family also includes multiple graded stakes winner Scott’s Scoundrel and stakes winners Gobedie and Patsy’s Holiday.
“This was one of the best horses in the sale, I thought,” Lanni said. “He deserved to bring that kind of money. I believe in the sire. He’s still very young and he doesn’t have that many crops out there.”
There are no upcoming entries at this time.
