Amr Zedan’s $2 million winning bid was the first of 15 seven-figure yearlings purchased during the Monday’s session of the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale.
A son of leading sire Curlin, the colt was bred by Curlin Syndicate & Don Alberto Corporation and was consigned by Hill ‘n’ Dale at Xalapa, agent.
Donato Lanni, who was accompanied by trainer Bob Baffert, did the bidding on behalf of Zedan.
“He’s a horse that the whole team liked. Bob loved the horse,” said Lanni. “He was a horse that impressed us from the very beginning. At Saratoga, you have so much time to look at these horses, if you ever have a reason to get off a horse. We just stayed on the horse.”
Pedigree looks like he’ll stretch out,” Lanni continued. “He’s a very mature colt, very athletic colt. Just a really, really cool colt.”
As far as the female pedigree, the colt is the first foal out of stakes winner Merlazza, whose half-sister Mapit is the dam of graded stakes winner Where’s My Ring. The Kentucky-bred’s fourth dam is millionaire multiple Grade 1 winner Dream Supreme, herself the dam of Grade 1 winner Majestic Warrior.
