Zedan Racing’s promising 3-year-old MAYMUN took his record to a perfect 2-from-2 on Sunday with an Allowance Optional Claiming victory that saw only one horse able to get anywhere near him at Santa Anita.
Immediately taking control of the one-mile dirt race, MAYMUN was ready to run going into the first turn and made Juan Hernandez take hold to save his best for later. Opening up on the field in the stretch, it was only his stablemate who was able to stick with him in the stretch with Imagination sticking his head in front for a brief period.
MAYMUN showed that he not only has talent but also determination when he reclaimed the lead near the line. The pair crossed it with MAYMUN a neck in front and the third placed runner settling for a finish 10 ¾ lengths back behind our winner.
A $900,000 OBS purchase last year by the stable, he out of a full sister to multiple stakes placed Auspicious and a half-sister to Grade 3 winner Flatter Than Me.
MAYMUN is part of an exciting 3-year-old crop for our stable with Grade 1 winner MUTH leading the charge. Others in the group include Grade 2 placed DUA and COACH PRIME.
